I just got accepted into columbus state community college where i am doing a transfer science program... after those two years I am going to Toledo University to become a pharmacists but i have some questions... 1. first of all will the two years in community college focusing on science and math help me? 2. Is there really competition for pharmacists? I always thought that there wasn't because they are in such high demand? 3. At what age did you graduate and was it easy to find a suitable place for you to work? 4. Be completely honest! I know pharmacy school is hard but exactly how hard? Thank- you so much!!

For reliable information about pharmacy check the website of the AACP - that is the official national organization that coordinates info about all accredited US schools of pharm. In theory, at least, you can get into pharm school from community college, but the competition is tough. You will need excellent grades in all the prerequiste courses. Usually prereqs are a year of bio with lab, a year of general chem with lab, a year of organic chem with lab, and some other courses. There is a big demand for pharmacists so the money for pharmacists is great - they make about $80,000 a year or more. But there are only about 80 colleges of pharm in the USA (out of more than 1500 universities) and many of them are rather small, so there are just not very many spaces for students who want to enter these schools. That's why you need to have top grades and top recommendations, as well as a high score on the difficult PCAT test (similar to SAT but much harder). The courses in pharm school are pretty hard and involve a lot of difficult materials - kind of like very advanced biology and chem. Becoming a pharmacist is a great career, but you need to be dedicated and hardworking and smart to make this dream come true. Good luck.

About Where should I go to college

Where should I go to college?
I'm going to be a senior in high school and I want to major in marketing. I have a 4.3 GPA, a 29 on the ACT and a handful of extracurriculars. My mom wants me to stay in state (OH) because it's cheaper, but i'd love to go to a bordering state. My dream is to live in Chicago and work for a large company but in order to do that, I want to get into a school with a good business program. Here's the colleges I've been looking at so far: Miami University (Oxford, OH) Ohio State DePaul University Loyola University Purdue University University of Pittsburgh University of Cincinatti Butler University Syracuse University University of Toledo Indiana University Freed- Hardeman University Lipscomb University The last two are christian universities. I'd love to go to a christian school, but I'm afraid I won't get the type of job I want if I don't attend a very well known business school. If I don't attend a christian school, I definately want to be a part of a larger campus ministry. Also, I've heard that Miami University is very preppy, and I'm not sure how well I'd fit in there. Sorry this was so long, I just don't know who to talk to about all of this. If you have any suggestions on where else I should look, please let me know! All of this is really stressing me out.

Ohio State and University of Cincinnati. Stay in state- save your money. You will need to go to grad school anyways and that will add to your total education bill. You live in a state with good schools- use them!

haha I'm in a very similar position as you, I'm an upcoming high school senior, so I actually am not the person to be answering, but you mentioned that you don't know who to talk to. If you have a favorite teacher in your school, or your guidance counselor definitely should be able to help you. Also, do you know any friends who are already in college? Maybe try talking to them too.

Miami should be your first choice, since you want to go into marketing. That school is highly respected in the world of Ohio business, and you'll make some very valuable contacts there. Visit the campus and take their tour. You'll probably like it. OSU and Cincinatti are also good schools, but I don't think they have any special marketing/business reputations. Out of state, the University of Pennsylvania (not Pittsburgh) is the #1 ranked marketing school in the nation. Indiana is also among the best schools. (US News 2008 ranking)

Depends on how you define "good." To be honest, I don't think it's going to be absolutely vital to go to a name-brand school as an undergrad. That having been said, there are a couple schools (prestigious according U.S. News & World Report's rankings) that aren't that much farther away that you could try, most notably Michigan. (I'm using USN&WR simply because it's the one that most people look at, much to my chagrin.) If you're OK with attending your state school's rival, I do know that the business school is pretty respected and that many people get placed into well-known companies, but I assume that's the case for many business schools; business students are usually really driven. Certainly, in-state schools are probably cheaper, but I think that with a background like yours, you'd be eligible for a pretty good financial aid package, which may or may not include scholarships. I'd probably restrict myself to a couple out-of-state schools and a bunch of in-state schools if price is a big factor for your family. Not to say that the in-state schools aren't as good; they may actually provide a better, more individualized learning experience than Penn, Pitt, OSU, Mich, etc. The big-name schools are generally research institutions, so a lot of the faculty is hired with research in mind; teaching may be a secondary concern. That having been said, I personally feel as if you're buying too much into the prestige thing. It helps with connections, true, but getting a job is just as much about advertising yourself as it is your social capital, so I don't feel that going to a smaller school or a Christian school hurts you as much as you seem to think it will. If you want a compromise, you could look at schools like Wheaton College (highly-respected Christian alma mater of Billy Graham) or... Carleton College (A book I read I think said that Carleton has cranked out the most CEOs as of a few years ago, but my memory's fuzzy). Of course, it's going to depend at least partially on your drive to succeed at whatever school and in whatever jobs you end up in. As far as an on-campus fellowships go, even if you go to a Christian school, I think it's definitely worth your time to join a fellowship. I have friends at Wheaton who find their fellowship (Koinonia) a much more intimate expression of their faith than just heading to the school-required stuff. Personally, though a couple conferences run by InterVarsity, I've gotten to know the OSU IV staff and the revived Pitt IV chapter, and they strike me as being very solid. A couple of other friends from my time at Mich really like Campus Crusade and the Navigators (This guy was with Mich's IV during med school and Navigators at UCSD during undergrad), so I'd heartily recommend those if they're on whatever campus up you end up on. If you go on college visits, see if you can schedule a time with a campus staff worker and talk to him/her about the group's beliefs, pros/cons, and atmosphere. Most of the info (or at least a contact page) is available online, so it shouldn't be too hard to do. College is one of the most influential times in your life, and if you want to grow your faith, it's gotta be nurtured well. If I can (try to) help in any other way, feel free to send me a message.

Okay now I know there are other similar questions on here but not what i'm looking for. I'm 17 years old and a Junior in High School. I have a Accum GPA of 3.7 and Take mostly honors/ Post-Secondary classes. I am your typical high school student, football, basketball, baseball, and some clubs and NHS. I wanna know, what does a kid like me do to become a pharmacist? It has always been my dream and I always research ways to better myself. I live in Parma, Ohio and I am considering attending Toledo, OSU, Kent or Akron (Kent & Akron dont have Pre-Pharm but a medical school that runs off of it after 4 years) So what should I do? I have talked to teachers and others and I want more opinions. I already planned my visits to these colleges, I am taking my ACT in 2 weeks. I work at Giant Eagle, Should I talk to the pharmacy there? See if i can volunteer? I dont know. Just please give me all the help possible. Anything will help, thanks.

Well I work at Giant Eagle too... I will speak about the Utoledo program....you will start out pre-pharm and take two years of undergraduate classes. These entail your gen chem, organic chem, bio's and physics as well as calc 1 and 2 as well as anatomy/phys. You will then apply for the "professional division" and if accepted (must maintain very high grades) you will start as a first year professional pharmacy student and continue for four years until graduation as a PharmD where you will be able to work as a pharmacist. UFindlay has a program that is also 6 years and you are guarenteed a spot when you get in after HS. Kent/Akron go through NEOUCOM and require you to apply similar to Utoledo. It is important to say that for all three of them if you dont get in after your second year you can apply again. OSU requires you to graduate and then apply to the pharm school as a graduate program and so takes 8 years similar to a medical school. Just to let you know i am starting med school but i can answer most questions related to pharmacy as i work there now.

There are 2 options: BS in Pharmacy - cannot prescribe medication to patients. Doctor of Pharmacy - can prescribe medication to patients. Most students will go the pre-pharmacy route in college, get some volunteer or work experience and then apply to the Doctorate program. A BS in Pharmacy is not required. Any major is acceptable so long as you take the pre-pharmacy list of courses. I am 18 years old and a College Student, Can I receive food stamps?
To clarify, I am an Ohio resident. I am 18 years old and I recently graduated High School (2010). I turned 18 before I graduated High School. Yesterday my mother (whom I am a dependent too) and I had an appointment with the Department of Job and Family Services. The took away my TANF benefit of 259. Took all my food stamps. But left me with my Health Insurance as I'm enrolled in the University of Toledo. What benefits can I get? If I am my mothers dependent aren't I recognized for food stamps? How can they take my food stamps away before allowing me to secure Federal Work Study? Is this legal? I have so many questions but the Department of Job and Family Services in Lucas County won't answer my questions. How are my mother and myself suppose to survive and eat together? She will be given a hundred and something in food stamps. How can this feed two people?

if you're a dependant, she needs to get you relisted as one and her food stamps should increase considerably. There's other things you should be able to apply for such as pell grants. They're not alot, but every little bit helps.

You should be able to. Tell DHS that you are 18 now and you want to apply for food stamps for yourself. Tell them that you and your mother eat separetly. DO NOT tell them you are a college student, or you will not be eligible. I do not understand why they wont answer your questions that seems strange to me. Another thing that you could do is call up some local chuches that may have food pantrys, it really has helped me out alot. Alot of churches also have donated funds to help out poor people who can not afford to pay thier bills. This has also helped me when I was in need of assistance. Also since you are enrolled in college you should be eligible for finacial aid. About have way into the semester you will get your refund check that should help also a bunch!!!!!!!!!!!

College students are generally not entitled to food stamps or cash assistance. Once you are 18 and have graduated from HS,you are no longer a dependent and are removed from the family benefits. You are now an adult and are responsible for yourself. Time to get a job.

About Finding time for exercise

Finding time for exercise?
For the last few months I have been trying to start a healthier lifestyle. I'm 5'6 and 130 pounds which to some might seem ideal, but I am very unhealthy. I have high cholesterol, digestive problems, am tired all the time etc. I have been doing ok with the eating, but can not seem to find time to exercise. I work 6 days a week 10-12 hours a week ( I am a marketing professional for a private country club and the members and club are my life, which I love and wouldn't consider leaving). I can't find much time for working out, does anyone have any sugesstions on fun quick workouts. I really hate the gym so anything outdoors or in my home would be great. I live in Toledo, OH so it is winter here, meaning I can't get out as much. Please help I feel unmotivated and uneducated!

I've recently begun working out with Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds videos. SO FUN! I know you don't need to lose weight, but that's not really the point... It's good, brisk, fun exercise that you can do at home or even take the idea and go outside. She has so many videos and options that you're bound to find one that works... I have one with a 30 minute, 2.5 mile "Walk & Jog." Fun, fun, fun :D
